6 Brushes I Can’t Live Without

Today I wanted to share some thoughts on something I don’t talk about much, but is integral to my makeup routine; brushes! I’m somewhat of a brush hoarder, so I challenged myself to pick my top 6 brushes that I just can’t live without. My goal was to not just pick my favorite six, but pick six that could also work together to create a beginner brush kit. In no particular order:

IT Cosmetics brush1. IT Cosmetics Flat Top Buffing Foundation Brush ($48)

This is what I use as my everyday brush for foundation application. If used properly the brush can mimick the airbrush effect you get when you use a beauty blender, but is perfect for the lazy person who has zero desire to wet, use, and wash a beauty blender each morning. The bristles are sturdy but soft, and super densely packed…the brush has over 88,000 bristles!

Tarte brushes2. Tarte Shape Shifter Double Ended Bamboo Brow Brush ($22)

This is my latest addition to my kit but I just had to include it to my list because of how versatile this tool is! The angled end is extremely soft and is used for filling in brows, though it could easily work to apply gel liner. The other end is a little spooly to comb out your eyebrows. I also use this end to separate my eyelashes, so really this could be used for four different purposes! I’m not usually a fan of Tarte brushes, so if you’re set on getting a brush from Tarte I would highly suggest this one.

3. Coastal Scents BR C N08 ($2.49)

This is my favorite brush for when I want to blend colors together where they meet,  but still want to keep the colors vivid and separate. As far as blender brushes go, the bristles on this are soft but short, so it gives me the ability to blend very small areas with great precision. As an extra added bonus, this brush is UNDER 3 DOLLARS!!

4. Stila #9 ($24)

Even though this is also a blending brush, I like this for all the opposite reasons of why I like the Coastal Scents BR C N08. This has much longer and less compact bristles and is excellent for creating looks that require a good amount of blending. My favorite use for this is when I’m trying to do a super quick smoky eye.

5. Elizabeth Mott All Over Shadow Brush ($9.99)

I got this a few months ago in my Ipsy and its quickly grown to be my go-to brush for both complicated multi-dimentional looks, as well as what I use when I’m just quickly swiping a single color over my lid. None of my other brushes can pick up color quite like this can, and the short bristles let me be extremely precise with application of color.

Crown brushes

6. Crown Brush C224 Oval Concealer ($2.98)

This was an other brush I got in a subscription box (Ipsy? Glossybox?) and now regularly use. I use this for a ton of stuff including applying concealer, doing really precise cream highlighting and contouring, and when I’m really trying to go all-out, applying white cream shadow as a base to make my other shadows pop. Because of this, I make sure to have this with me whenever I travel.

It was SO hard for me to pick a top six but I’m fairly certain that my everyday makeup routine just wouldn’t be the same if I didn’t have these lovelies. Do you have a favorite brush or brushes? Let me know in the comments section below!
