Too Faced Merry Kissmas Swatches & Review

Oh-ho-ho what’s this? A second post this week? Normally I would be able to contain myself and wait until Monday to post, but not today. I just can’t. I have to share at once the beauty and majestic-ness that is the Too Faced Merry Kissmas liquid lipstick set.

I ordered this limited edition holiday collection set from ULTA (but don’t worry, it’s also at Sephora) for $25. Given that it includes four deluxe-sized lipsticks this is actually a great price since each full size lipstick usually costs $21. The set includes two original, one chocolate, and one matte lipstick.

If you haven’t tried any of the too faced melted lipsticks I think this would be a fantastic set to try since most of the colors are universally flattering and it lets you sample most of the melted lipstick varieties Too Faced has to offer (minus the metal line).

I already own a few colors from the original melted line but I was dying to try the chocolate and the matte version! The collection includes the following shades:

Honey  (Chocolate) – Based on the packaging I was worried this was going to be too brown for me however the color is actually an almost peachy nude brown. The product applied very sheer at first, so I applied two passes in my swatch, but the formula is buildable and can be made darker and more opaque with just a few layers. The thing that impressed me the most about Honey was the scent/taste. I’m usually pretty put off by artificial chocolate smell, but this smelled amazing and very much like real chocolate. The best part was that the smell lingered for over an hour and didn’t dissipate like many other scented lipsticks tend to do.

Chihuahua – A delicate, light rosy brown. My lips are fairly pigmented so this was actually almost an MLBB (my lips but better) color for me. Though the color is absolutely beautiful I am hesitant to call Chihuahua and Fig long wear lipsticks. While I didn’t have to apply them quite as often as a traditional lipstick, the staying power was nowhere near that of Stila’s Stay All Day or Beauty Bakerie’s Lip Whips. This is usually only a problem for me when I wear bright colors since it normally starts to fade from the inside out, leaving me with a patchy mess. With Chihuahua I felt the color faded relatively evenly and so I didn’t mind having to reapply.

Fig – Fig is the most beloved of the melted shades and most frequently the color that gets included in gift sets because the color is just so damn beautiful. The color is a lovely mauve pink that flatters everyone from the deepest skin tones to the ultra pale and applies opaquely in just one pass. Just like Chihuahua, this didn’t stay on quite all day but it did leave behind a delicate stain which was actually very pretty.

Lady Balls (Matte) – A “matte true red” color. I  felt that this actually pulled more to the blue spectrum and wasn’t exactly a true red. However, I think the blue undertones are extremely subtle and minimal, so even those who prefer orange-reds will find that this can flatter them. As for the formula, I was impressed with how light it was for such an opaque finish. Since this was a matte lipstick the formula was substantially more drying than the others, however it did mean I was able to wear it for almost three hours longer than the other melted lipsticks.

Final Thoughts

Too Faced knocks it out of the park with their holiday collections every year and 2016 is no exception. This set is a phenomenal sampler of all that the melted liquid lipstick line has to offer it and I highly suggest it both because the quality of the lipsticks is stellar and because the packaging is, as always, to die for.
