Like most every July in Texas, this year was exceptionally hot. It was so hot, in fact, that my phone displayed a cool-down warning from just a few minutes of being outside on more than one occasion. I don’t know about you but when it’s that hot the last thing I want to do is my hair and makeup. The idea of spending any extra time under hot hair tools and vanity lights gives me a headache and when the thermometer hits 100+ I resign myself to minimalist looks.
So, for me July was all about easy looks that can withstand the crazy heat of Texas. In no particular order my July 2016 favorites were:
Catrice Cosmetics Lashes to Kill Ultra Black Volume Mascara – Though this mascara isn’t waterproof it has held up sweat and tears better than many of the waterproof mascaras I own. The formula is creamy and the brush is perfect for creating full lashes that aren’t heavy. The formula dries down very soft and I’ve never had any issues with flaking. The best part? You can get it at ULTA for under $6.
Kiko Cosmetics Milano Brush Cleanser – I’m usually pretty type A when it comes to cleaning my brushes, but that desire vanishes almost instantly when I’m faced with the reality that cleaning them also means spending 1+ hour in a small bathroom with no ventilation under florescent lights. To remedy that, I’ve been spot-cleaning my brushes daily with the Kiko Brush Cleanser. This stuff is MIRACULOUS. Just a couple squirts will take a dirty brush coated in old foundation to nearly-new condition. The formula is gentle on all brushes and dries extremely fast, so there’s no downtime after cleaning. I’ve tried other brush cleaners and this is the only one I’ve found that can get to the very middle of densely packed brushes and clean them completely. It’s also $9!
Too Faced Original Lip Insurance – I know I’m late to the party on this and that it’s been popular for quite a while, but this lip insurance has saved me on days when I wanted something light on my lips (read: not a matte liquid lipstick) but didn’t want to bother reapplying throughout the day. By applying the lip insurance, letting it dry, then applying my lipstick, and lightly setting it with translucent powder, I’ve been able to achieve 5-7 hours of wearability. That’s pretty dang good longevity if you ask me!
Lorac Unzipped Cheek – This is the perfect long-wear blush that is not just sweat proof, but also gross oily skin proof, which is what happens to my skin when I spend even a couple minutes outside. The palette features four gorgeous colors and is incredibly pigmented. I reviewed this more in-depth last week, so be sure to check out my longer review if you’re interested in getting one of these for yourself.
L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Glow Foundation – This foundation has had an incredible amount of hype recently and I decided to check it out after my bestie Becca, of Becca Buzz, would not stop talking about it. At first I was put off by how liquidy the formula is, but that’s more than made up for by the beautiful, dewy finish it leaves behind. As a person with oily skin, this is the first dewy/glowy foundation I’ve tried that hasn’t looked awful on me. Though I do still blot a few times throughout the day, the foundation creates a very natural and youthful glow rather than the overly oily sheen that some other dewy foundations leave. Since I’ve been trying to wear minimal foundation this has been perfect for me since the coverage isn’t overly heavy.
NYX HD Concealer – The NYX HD Concealers are my absolute favorite new concealers. This combines the coverage of the MAC Studio Fix concealers with the lightweight, almost whipped texture of the IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Concealer to create a fantastic, long-wear concealer. It also builds very well, so it can be used to cover both pigmentation issues as well as larger bumps. When I don’t feel like applying a full face of foundation this has been my go-to product for a light coverage of my trouble spots.
…And that’s it for July! What did you love last month? Let me know in the comments section below!
